HemlockFest is a non-profit, family-friendly, music, arts & crafts, and environmental education festival held each year the first full weekend in November. Our goal is to raise awareness about, and funds supporting research in, the battle to save North Georgia’s hemlock trees from the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid.

Unfortunately, we have been unsuccessful in locating a suitable venue for 2023. The organizing team is currently evaluating a venue near Dahlonega, with the hope that we can be ready for an awesome event in November 2024. We will be sending out calls for assistance to develop the property via email to the Lumpkin Coalition email list, so please stand by and join us as we we continue to work to save the Hemlocks!

The Hemlock Problem

The Hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA) is killing Georgia’s beautiful Hemlocks. This exotic aphid-like insect from Asia infests Hemlocks, sucks their sap, and kills them in 3-6 years.

Why You Should Care

The shade from Hemlock trees keep streams cool enough for the fish (particularly trout) to live, and help keep stream banks stable, preventing erosion. The hemlock also provides food and shelter for wild animals and birds.

The Plan
