I stumbled across an article recently claiming that research shows correlations between an individual’s music preference and their personality traits. The concept itself may have crossed many of our minds, but it was cool to see someone drive the point home.
It went on to say that these relationships exist across cultures. So, someone in another country who likes similar music to you will also exhibit some of the same personality traits as you. Very cool!
Of course, there are examples of the opposite being true, and the study was limited to people who listened to Western music and knew English. Regardless, when I read it, I had a bit of an epiphany.
Maybe there’s more to it than that. I’d venture to guess that people who care deeply about the environment might share some of the same personality traits as me. People who like the smaller, more intimate music festivals share some of the same personality traits as me.
People who enjoy having kids around at their music festivals and are all too happy to behave accordingly (while still having an excellent time) might share some of the same personality traits as me.
The Cause Is the Reason Behind HemlockFest, but What About the Music?
The musical lineup at HemlockFest is eclectic, yes, but within some boundaries. Heavily Americana with touches of Blues, Bluegrass, Folk, Rock (nothing too heavy), and Singer-Songwriter. And depending on the year, you might find some Reggae and New Orleans flavor mixed in.
Now, all of this isn’t meant to say that everyone at HemlockFest is alike. The people are just as eclectic as the musical mix, if not more. But, again, within some boundaries. I’ve met so many like-minded, kind, caring folks at HemlockFest over the years. There has to be something to this!
My first HemlockFest was 2009 and I missed one along the way before the world shut down in 2020. It is safe to say that HemlockFest is one of my very favorite events of the year. The same goes for my wife and my then eight-year-old son, who’ll turn 21 a few weeks before this year’s event.
It’s the camping. It’s the music. It’s the common thread of caring for the environment and wanting to contribute in some way to make the world a better place. It’s very much the feeling that we’re safe and surrounded by our people. In a nutshell, it’s the vibe. And it’s incredible!
Nowhere else have I found the vibe that exists at HemlockFest. I’m excited about the new venue and I’m really looking forward to once again being a part of something truly special. See you the first weekend in November!
